Metastatic prostate cancer: clinical aspects and treatment limitations in a university hospital center in Senegal

Abstract Background Prostate cancer is most often diagnosed at the metastatic stage in many sub-Saharan African countries. The objective of our study to analyze management prostatic adenocarcinoma based on epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects developing country context. Methods Retrospective collecting 276 patients from January 1st, 2012 December 31st, 2019 Aristide Le Dantec University Hospital Dakar, Senegal. Parameters studied: age, family history prostate cancer, reasons for consultation, total Specific Antigen (PSA), anatomic pathology examination, extension assessment, treatment, nadir PSA, castration resistance, overall survival. Results average age was 71.4 years. A noted 21 patients. Spinal pain reason consultation. PSA level 1967.1 ng/ml. majority had moderately differentiated cancer. Bone metastases were common. All androgen suppression. tumor cytoreduction performed 89 193 ng/ml as early sixth month. time onset resistance ranged 6 30 months. Abiraterone acetate used seven docetaxel 43 survival 19.8 ± 1.2 Conclusion Metastatic symptomatic diagnosis. Second-line treatments rarely during resistance. Overall low.
